A sleep expert has revealed an easy method to determine if you are experiencing a common sleep issue. James Leinhardt, a sleep posture specialist at Levitex, shared a practical test for identifying sleep deprivation using just two everyday kitchen items.
He described this as a "brilliant little trick" that can be done during the day. According to him, the process involves using a spoon and any bowl or dish that will make a loud noise. He explained: "Perform this test during the daytime, by darkening the room and grabbing your spoon. When you're lying down, hold your spoon over the bowl and note the time when you close your eyes with the intention of going to sleep. If you fall asleep, your hand grip will loosen, causing the spoon to drop and the noise should wake you up."
This test provides valuable insights into how quickly you fall asleep. By checking the clock after waking up, you can estimate how long it took for you to drift off. This information is essential in determining whether you are suffering from sleep deprivation.
James added: "If it takes less than five minutes, then you are likely severely sleep-deprived. If you fall asleep after 10 minutes, you might still need more rest, but if it takes more than 15 minutes, you're probably doing well."
